Local Area
Empuriabrava
is ideally situated on the NE coast of Spain, only 20 minutes from the French border.
It is claimed to be the largest residential marina in the world, with more canals than Venice. Many of the houses built here since its inception in 1968 are canal-side with private moorings, although by no means all properties are next to the water.
Amenities: There are a number of local shops and supermarkets in Empuriabrava, also a good selection of bars, restaurants and a few nightclubs (on the edge of town). Parking is plentiful and free. Every Saturday there is a market held along the beach promenade. Being on a network of canals, Empuriabrava is an excellent place for boating and fishing and there are several boat rental companies in the town.
Empuriabrava is approximately 40 minutes from the old walled town of Girona with its excellent shopping and convenient airport and is approximately 1½ hours from the electric city of Barcelona. Figueres is the nearest market town containing an excellent pedestrian shopping area and is, of course, home to the world famous Dalí Museum.
Figueres also has a railway station on the main TGV line from Paris to Barcelona and Malaga. Northbound trains also divert through Cannes and Nice on their way to Monte Carlo. view over barcelona
Other places of interest along the beautiful coast are Cadaquès, the artists’ colony, Port Lligat, where Dali had his quirky "castle" and, further south, the Roman ruins of Empurias.
A short drive inland into the mountains and you are into the green world of pastures and pine forests. Andorra and skiing are approximately 3 hours by Motorway. The main North/South Autoroute is only 30 minutes from Roses town centre.
Beaches: There are several sandy beaches in the resort of Empuriabrava itself but also you will find many small coves along the coastline, many of which can only be reached by boat.
Activities: Windsurfing, scuba diving, parachuting,
birdwatching (Aguamolls), walking, cycling, tennis,
fully equipped gymnasium with swimming pool,
sauna, jacuzzi, squash court (Nautic Centre),
skiing (2 hour transfer), golf (several high quality
courses nearby), go karting, horse riding.

Several top quality golf courses within 40 minutes, the nearest being Peralada (15 minutes); Figueres town 10 km (with the famous Dali museum), French border 25 km, Girona 35 km (airport 40 minutes by car), Barcelona 120 km (good train service from Figueres takes 1 hour 40 minutes), Roses 5 km (with the Roman ruins and beaches).
